The 500 meter lake swim begins with a shallow water start right off the beach. Athletes will begin in waves separated by age. The course will be a quasi-rectangle and will be marked by buoys - stay to the right of the buoys! There will be lifeguards, volunteer kayakers and the local Fire Department in water to ensure swimmer safety and render assistance if necessary. The athletes will exit the lake about 200 feet from the start, allowing spectators to watch the athletes at multiple points during the swim.
The 10 mile bike portion is a 2-loop flat and fast course that takes riders through the neighborhood streets of Lincoln Park. Most of the roads are open to traffic but we will have police and volunteers controlling traffic and assisting riders. Riders will pass the lake twice, again allowing spectators to cheer them on.
The out-and-back 5k run course will be on flat, paved roads. The roads are NOT closed to traffic, though traffic is minimal. Athletes should be aware of their surroundings and keep to the left of the roads. There are three water stations on the run course, providing ample hydration opportunities for athletes. The run begins at the lake and ends about 100 yards down Ryerson Road. Spectators line the road cheering athletes on in the last leg of their triathlon.
